Chelsea make late bid to steal Kaka from Real Madrid

CHELSEA made a last-minute bid today to hijack the $114 million transfer of Brazilian superstar Kaka from AC Milan to Real Madrid.AC Milan have denied that general manager Adriano Galliani was negotiating the sale of Kaka to Real Madrid during a visit to Spain.

Speculation has been mounting that the Brazilian playmaker will swap the San Siro for the Bernabeu following Florentino Perez's return as Real Madrid president, with Chelsea also interested.

Reports in Spain have claimed a deal was agreed between the clubs (Real and Milan) during talks in the Spanish capital, with a fee of £56 million quoted.

However, in a statement released on the club's official website, Milan have insisted Galliani had only travelled to Madrid to attend a dinner for Perez.

The statement read: "The general manager of the Rossoneri, Adriano Galliani, is in the city of Madrid exclusively for the investiture dinner of Florentino Perez, the new president of Real Madrid."

Kaka was the subject of a big-money bid from City in January but the audacious swoop failed, with the player insisting he had no desire to leave Milan.

Since then he has been linked with a move to Madrid and speculation increased still further as the return of Perez - who was in charge during the Spanish club's famous 'Galacticos' era - grew ever more likely.

Kaka, currently in Brazil with the national team ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, will sign up for Real Madrid five years and a salary of almost $16 million a year.

Earlier, AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi had hinted at 27-year-old Kaka's departure moments before Madrid radio Station Cadena Ser had claimed he was indeed moving.
