The incident in which Lokanath Mahalingam, the scientific officer of Kaiga Nuclear Power Generating Station has gone missing since Monday from Mallapur township of the station, indicates that the security arrangement in the township is feeble.
He was working in training department imparting knowledge on working of the project and skill development. He was not a scientist in the Kaiga project,” disclosed Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Director (Operations), G Nageswar Rao.
However, the Mallapur township developed for the employees of Kaiga project was treated as any other civilian establishment and minimum security was provided there. Mallapur police station was created for this purpose.
SP Raman Gupta said three teams comprising Police, CISF and Forest department officers have been formed to trace Mahalingam. The team has been conducting search operations on the banks of river Kali. Dense forests and intermittent rains have hampered the search, he said. Mahalingam, went missing three days ago after he was last seen going for a morning walk.
KARWAR: The media persons, who were invited by the management of Kaiga Nuclear Power Generating Station on Friday to give information about the sudden disappearance of Lokanath Mahalingam, had a tough time the whole day. The mediamen were supposed to be picked up by the officials at 11.30 am.
The vehicle arrived at 12.15 pm. After reaching the guest house, media persons were made to wait for three hours. The press briefing was over around 4.30 pm. When the reporters wanted to meet the family members of Mahalingam, they were not permitted to enter the township itself.
