Sacha Baron Cohen has paraded his “Bruno” character successfully to the viewing public this weekend, topping the box office in a close race with the animated feature “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.” Bruno was successful on fewer screens, having only shown on 2,756 compared to Ice Age’s 4,102 screens.

Another film opening this weekend, “I Love You Beth Cooper,” failed to the films projection expectations, generating a dismal $5 million and a seventh place finish.

The film starred Hayden Panettiere as a cheerleader that on graduation is the subject of an unpopular student’s commencement speech.
