The French justice was upon Friday to describe the outcome in the hearing of Algerian-born song star Cheb Mami who is charged with attempting to have his ex-girlfriend bear the forced termination.
Cheb Mami is an Algerian-born raï singer. His birth was in Graba-el-wed, a populous quarter of Saida. Located 170 kilometres south of Oran, the city of Saida is on the high mesas of southwestern Algeria.
Prosecutors are seeking seven years in jail for the 42-year-old singer who expressed remorse and pleaded for the woman's forgiveness at his trial Thursday in Bobigny, outside Paris.
"I regret everything that happened. I am asking for her forgiveness," said Mami, whose real name is Mohamed Khelifati.
Known as the "Prince of Rai", Mami produced several chart-topping records in France in the 1990s but he reached international stardom in 2001 with the hit "Desert Rose" that he sang with British pop star Sting.
The court has asked for arrest warrants to be issued against Hicham Lazaar and Abdelkader Lallali, two of Mami's close aides.
A verdict is expected at around 3:00 pm.
