Walter Cronkite Death Photos : News With Walter Cronkite

The 92 year-old journalist, Walter Cronkite, died at 7:42 p.m. at his home in New York on Friday . Walter, who was the anchor of CBS’ ‘News With Walter Cronkite’ from 1962 to 1981and also known as “Uncle Walter”, had been ill with cerebrovascular disease for a long time.CBS has confirmed the death of Walter Cronkite tonight.


Funeral arrangements have not been released. CBS issued the following statement on the death of Walter Cronkite tonight:

Walter Cronkite, the CBS newsman so revered by Americans that they considered him the “most trusted man in America,” died today. He was 92 and had homes in New York and Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin is home to the personal papers of Walter Cronkite, one of the twentieth century's most eminent pioneers and leaders in television broadcast news.

In January 2006, during a press conference to promote the PBS documentary about his career, Cronkite said that he felt the same way about America's presence in Iraq as he had about their presence in Vietnam in 1968 and that he felt America should recall its troops.
