Brooks and Dunn confirmed their breakup online today

Brooks and Dunn’s break up rocked the Country Music world Monday. Brooks and Dunn confirmed their breakup online today, a split after 20 years together.In a message posted on their official Web site, the musicians wrote that “we have agreed as a duo that” it was time to “call it a day.”

The message added: “If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time.” Brooks & Dunn said they would release a greatest hits album on Sept. 8 and perform a final set of concerts, to be called the Last Rodeo Tour, next year.

After joining up at the suggestion of Tim DuBois, the founder of Arista Nashville Records, Mr. Brooks and Mr. Dunn have released 10 studio albums, including “Waitin’ on Sundown,” “Borderline” and “Red Dirt Road,” and have sold more than 30 million records.

Online Brooks and Dunn confirmed Monday the following to their decades of fans:

“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it’s time call it a day,” they said.

“This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed…. We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time.”

To date Brooks and Dunn has sold 22.3 million albums in the U.S
