The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession on Thursday, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence.
Lil Wayne pleads guilty in a New York courtroom to charges of felony gun possession and it is expected he will receive a one year prison sentence. Lil Wayne was arrested back in July 2007 for carrying a .40-caliber semi-automatic.
The rapper will be sentenced in February 2010 where it is expected he will serve eight months of the one year prison sentence that is if the judge goes along with the plea deal.
Lil Wayne, 27, also is scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, which arose from a January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
Police pulled over Lil Wayne's tour bus in Columbus Circle on July 22, 2007. They said they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke wafting out the door before the bus left a concert venue minutes earlier.
