The Ford Figo is Ford's new subcompact automobile that goes on sale as a 2010 model. It is expected to be big competitor for Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz & Skoda Fabia. The new being “Figo” will be priced in the range of 3.5-5 lakh rupees.
It is based on the Ford Global B platform, and will be built in India for the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions. It gets its name from the colloquial Italian expression Figo which is similar to colloquial English expression 'cool'.
The new Figo is available in 2 variants a 70 Bhp DuraTec Petrol and a 68 Bhp DuraTorq Diesel engine. The diesel engine will be the same 1.4 Duratorq 68bhp motor that powers the Fords other cars like Ikon & Fiesta. The new petrol engine delivers a power of 70bhp with four valves and double overhead cams.
Ford is spending $500 million on the Chennai plant to double its annual capacity to 200,000 units and to add a lower-emissions paint plant.It will be lanched by march 2010.
