Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien was slapped with a six-game suspension for an altercation with a Minnesota Wild fan during the second period of a 6-2 loss on Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota.
He was suspended immediately pending a hearing, which was held in the NHL’s New York offices Friday morning.Commissioner Gary Bettman’s decision was announced shortly after noon ET. 
The Canucks also were fined $25,000 US, mandatory for any team whose player makes contact with a fan.Rypien, who was assessed a double minor for roughing, as well as a 10-minute misconduct for his altercation with the Wild’s Brad Staubitz, was heading down the tunnel to the dressing room when he grabbed a fan seated near the Canuck bench.
